 Festivals Of Uttrakhand Kumbh Mela Kumbh Mela in Uttrakhand is a festival that we all hear about a lot. But how grand it really is?! Well, it goes beyond a mela or fair for those who celebrate it. This rather important occasion sees the greatest assemblage of explorers that take a plunge into the Ganga River in order to free oneself of one's transgressions. Followers, saints, sadhus, and spectators,  regardless of their caste, creed, or orientation, immerse themselves in the waters of Ganga, thereby harmonising with the pattern of birth and passing. PANCHACHULI PEAKS The Panchchuli peaks are a group of five snow-capped Himalayan peaks lying at the end of the eastern Kumaon region, near Munsiyari, in Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand state. The peaks have altitudes ranging from 6,334 metres (20,781 ft) to 6,904 metres (22,651 ft). Panchachuli-1 (6,355 m) The fi rst ascent of this peak was done by an Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) team in 1972, via the Uttari Balati glacier, led by Major Hukam Singh.  Panchachuli-2 (6,904 m) This is the highest peak in the group and the highest peak lying entirely in the Kumaon region. It was first climbed successfully by an Indo-Tibetan Border Police  team, led by Mahendra Singh, on 26 May 1973. Mountaineering Institute Of Uttrakhand Nehru Institute Of Mountaineering The proposal to have a mountaineering Institute at Uttarkashi was mooted by the Ministry of Defence, Government of India and th y because of its close proximity to the Gangotri region in western garhwal, which undoubtedly has the best climbing and training potential in India and perhaps in the world. The institute was raised in the year 1965 and was established in Gyansu. Later in 1966 Ladari reserve e Government of Uttar Pradesh in 1964. Uttarkashi was specially selected as the home of NIM, primarild forest area was chosen for the institute. In a historic development in November 2001, with the newly formed State of Uttaranchal coming into existence, the Chief Minister of Uttaranchal (now Uttarakhand) became the Vice President of the Institute.  Famous Personalitites of Uttrakhand General Bipin Rawat Born in Pauri in Uttarakhand, Bipin Rawat is a four star general in the Indian army and is the first and current Chief of Defence Staff since 2020. As a young man, General Bipin Rawat joined the National Defence Academy in Khadakwasla and the Indian Military Academy in Dehradun where he was awarded the Sword of Honour. Rishabh Pant Rishabh Pant is a cricketer who plays for the Indian national team and was born in Roorkee, Uttarakhand.
